Should Neckties Be Banned?

The tropical heat is sweltering and you feel sweat trickling down your neck. Your shirt collar is tight and you can barely breathe in the stifling heat and humidity. Unfortunately, you’re bound by professional dress codes that require a necktie to be worn and as you turn down the airconditioning temperature, you wish the cursed strip of silk around your neck can be banned.

Well, you’re not alone!

In a unconventional campaign, Italian, Indian and Japanese health and environmental ministries have started encouraging men to release their ties to help global warming and cool their bodies down.

Apparently, loosening your tie and tight fitting collar can actually cool your body temperature down by 2°C to 3°C! And cooler office workers will therefore use less airconditioning which saves energy and reduce greehouse gas emissions. Hopefully cooler bodies also mean cooler heads and less stress and tempers! Japan has claimed to that loosening of men’s ties had kept 460,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere! (source)

So, what do you think?

Should neckties be used only in formal events and should office workers be allowed to go without neckties in tropical countries and summer?

i believe that neckties should only be for formal events! if you want your workers to be productive, at least try and make them as comfortable as possible : )
