Parking charges can be expensive, especially in the city. Going out to the malls or for dinner could mean paying a substantial amount in parking fees – money that could be better spent saved.
So here are some quick tips for saving on parking fees:-
- Go to a mall with low or flat rate parking – some malls have cheaper parking rates than others. If you can, patronize those malls if they have the stores you want. If you have to park at a mall after hours, try to go for one with flat rate parking – it can save you a lot.
- Know your parking rates - wherever you go, be it to a hotel for dinner or to a mall or anywhere that requires you to pay for parking, know your parking rates. I have been overcharged before so I always check the parking rates so I know what to expect at the cashier.
- Take note of your entry time - Usually parking fees are charged in blocks of hours or minutes. Take note of that and plan your visit accordingly. If it is an autopay car park, the machine will charge you the next block even if you exceeded your time by only 1 minute. So why pay that extra money for just 1 minute when you could have saved it by leaving just 2 minutes earlier?
Where possible, park in legitimate parking areas where it is safer for you and your car. Don’t encourage the “jaga kereta” menace by paying them off. Its tempting to, but it just perpetuates the problem.
