Fruit juices used to either be a DIY thing at home, or purchased from the drinks seller in hawker centres. They started gaining popularity with the various cafe’s serving fruit juices and offering new and interesting combinations that were not previously found. In the recent couple of years, dedicated juice bars have finally hit KL. The main one used to be Juice Works but a branch of Australian brand, Boost has opened up it’s first outlet at the KLCC Signatures food court.
Juicing has been promoted in all sorts of health articles as a good way for the body to absorb vitamins and nutrients as well as to cleanse the system. It’s natural as well as low fat depending on what fruits you pick. Visiting a juice bar also allows you to try different kinds of fruit juice that you may not be able to or willing to try at home.

The only downside to KL juice bars is that they tend to be rather pricy. At Juice Works, the price for a 350ml cup starts at RM5.95 while that of a 500ml cup costs RM1 more. On average, the prices of drinks at Juice Works is around RM7.95 or RM8.95. You generally get a mix of 3 different kinds of fruit or sorbet or even ice-cream for those willing to indulge. They use Bulla ice-cream which gives a nice smooth texture once blended. The good thing about Juice Works is that you can find them in almost every major shopping mall and they sometimes run offers of Buy 1 Free 1 which makes it a whole lot cheaper and much more affordable.

As for Boost, it is more pricy than Juiceworks. A medium cup costs an average of RM11. It is being promoted as a meal replacement and they are made using their signature low-fat yoghurt, TD4 (to-die-for) which is 98% fat free. They have many, many interesting flavours including King William Chocolate, Brekkie-to-go-go and All Berry Bang. Another interesting thing about Boost is that you can add Boosters to your drink. These are basically health supplements in powder form that are claimed to boost your immunity or replenish your energy. I’m yet to try these Boosters but I’ll be sure to let you know if they work.
I’m still finding it rather difficult to pay RM11 for a glass of juice but they certainly do look tempting and I’ll definitely try one soon.
For those looking for an alternative to their heavy lunches or for an energy boost, just head down to any of these juice bars and give your body a treat. For those looking for a reason to indulge, it tastes fantastic and is good for you! So go ahead and give it a try. Who knows, you might get hooked on it.

I would suggest to visit the organic shops for juices, their prices are similar but you get pure organic juices which are done with slow juicing for optimum nutritions. Moreover, most organic shops will only cut the fruits when you order it. You will never drink other juices once you tasted organic. serious.
@ reese: Great suggestion. Thanks! Unfortunately, these were the only 2 I could find in the KLCC area. I will definitely try some organic juices the next time I am craving for some. Any one in praticular that you can recommend?
