Just a year back, the subject of male facials was still considered taboo with weird looks being given to those men brave enough to admit that they went for facials. Now, society has done a complete 360 with many, many salons specifically catering for men opening up all over the place. Even brand’s like Sothy’s have a facial salon specialising in men. This certainly bodes well for the Malaysian males whom I am sure want to look their best at all times.
Personally, I have been frequenting the Kanebo salon in Bangsar for my monthly facials for the past 2 years. They do not have any special treatments or packages for men but I find that it works very well for me and I know of many other male customers who go there for their facials as well. Their staff are friendly and very professional in their work and always put you at ease. They will gladly answer any questions you may have and also will adjust to your preferences be it a softer/harder touch or any other preference you may have.
I have been using the Deep Purifying Facial which consists of double cleansing, light extraction, steaming as well as 2 masks. They worked rather well to keep my skin condition under control previously when I used to have bad breakouts. Recently, my skin has improved and they recommended me to try more moisturising facials as the Deep Purifying can be rather drying. I had signed up for a Deep Purifying package and they had no problems with me switching to another facial treatment with the same price or topping up a little bit for other types of facials. Any recommendation they make is left entirely to you to decide and they are not pushy about it which I like.
When you step in for your facial, they will first serve you some peach tea with 2 dried apricots while they get the room ready for you. They will then bring you to your room and wait outside while you get changed, or if you prefer, to just take off your top as you will be covered with a blanket anyway. They will then begin the facial by using an oil cleanser followed by a foam cleanser to cleanse the face and neck. After that, they will steam the face for a few minutes to remove impurities and blocked pores. If you so wish, they will perform some mild extraction after the steaming.
This will be followed by a clay mask as well as a cloth mask to close up the pores and smoothen the skin. While you are enjoying your mask, they will give you a shoulder and back rub as well as a head massage. All in all, it is a very soothing and relaxing experience. Before you are done, they will apply moisturiser as well as sunblock if it is still daytime. They will then leave you to change and waiting for you outside will be a cup of warm ginger tea which is absolutely delicious!
If you do happen to fall asleep and start snoring, they won’t mind at all. I know this because this has happened to me before. I was so tired that I fell asleep halfway through the facial and was woken up by my snores!! 
I apologised of course and they said not to worry, it just showed how relaxed I was! 
The thing that keeps me going back to them is that they are very friendly and always give me a relaxing time with a well performed facial. So, if there are any men out there who are looking for a place to try having a facial, give Kanebo a shot. I’m sure you will not be dissapointed.
